Meanwhile Use project MEND at Plymouth’s Pop-Up Weekenders

Pop-in to one of three Pop-up sewing and making weekends at Vacancy Atlas in Plymouth from October 2022 to February 2023.

The events by local business MEND. sewing & making aim to inspire sustainable creativity for a happier you and a happier planet, by helping you to create a wardrobe of wearable clothes that you love! Come to the high street in Plymouth to learn to sew, mend your garments and take part in in-person, or hybrid workshops with us.

Have afternoon tea with Marni Miller (pictured), one of last year’s Sewing Bee contestants, and take part in visible mending hand sewing classes live from New York, with Carla Bellisio, a designer showcasing sustainable fashion as part of this year’s New York Fashion week.

As part of our pop-up classes, we will teach practical skills including interactive, fun parent and child sewing, repair shops and the use of creative technology. Our Be-a-maker classes include: garment hacking, beginners sewing, designing and printing t-shirt designs, and hand sewing using visible mending techniques.

Sustainable fabrics, patterns and haberdashery will also be on sale in our shop.

You can also buy a Gift Card for a friend or family member and give the gift of sewing and making with us this year.

The project is funded by Meanwhile Use, an Interreg project by Plymouth Culture and Plymouth City Council and the EU Commission. MEND. sewing & making will be hosting a series of workshops at the Vacancy Atlas building in Cornwall Street. We are a registered member of the Green Maker Initiative by Make South West.
